The word “sociopath” has been thrown around, or it would be, if she lived in a kingdom where psychiatry was an active practice. Mistress outlawed it, of course, based on the fact that every person she’d met who dabbled in the subject was a massive bore. Just unforgivable.
So of course it wasn’t a surprise when she’d deemed the Lizard of Guilt a particularly crap tribute. She’d sent an angry panther to that village, with hopes that it would rip a few villagers asunder, then banished the Lizard with rest of her shit tributes. She didn’t care very much when the Lizard and her Apprentice both disappeared, as neither one was interesting or useful. The only thing she felt even a little bad about was the fact that she wasn’t harsh enough on her staff to have kept them in the castle walls.
She’d dealt with that, of course. And when she received word that the Apprentice had returned, she was pleased to hear that the situation had been handled appropriately by the guards. Before she went in to hear the “explanation” she’d been assured he had, Mistress turned to the captain of her guards.
“Captain.”
“Yes, Mistress?”
“Two things. First, make sure we have the funeral pyre completely ready for his body.”
“Yes, Mistress.”
“And second, make sure I don’t like the next Apprentice quite as much as this one. Liking them makes it harder to destroy them.”
Then she kicked the door open and waited for him to come to.

Canon Point: Post-"Lament", aka she knows that Ivan is just in a magical coma, and not dead
History: Her "history" is largely unknown, here is her wiki page, and here is a post that chronologically lays out her story thus far (including Sandoval and Ivan, her inextricably linked best friend and favorite torture subject, respectively).
Personality: The first and most important thing to know about Mistress is that she is the unquestioned ruler of her world. Well, not the entire world, but at least the area in which she lives. It is unknown how she rose to this post, but she is under near-constant assassination attempts. To this end, she has an entire, all-female security force to protect herself and her castle. Mistress gets everything she wants, regardless of how childish or tempestuous it is. She even receives tributes from pretty much everyone (if she doesn’t like or approve of a tribute, the person or people who sent it to her generally suffer some terrible fate). And she is nowhere near a benevolent ruler -- indeed, she is prone to cruel and unusual behavior, not just as punishment, but as just her way of life.
Coming from an incredibly sexual world, Mistress’s ideas tend to have some base in fornication. She thinks of sex as both punishment and reward for those under her; if her Apprentice progresses enough, he is allowed to have sex with her. However, first he must suffer some sort of horrible treatment, such as having to find his penis after Mistress has magically detached and hidden it. When he misbehaves, her off-the-cuff punishment ideas have included shoving hot iron letters up his nether regions, and public genital whippings while being covered in hot marmalade and dressed as a “rubbish tiger”. Mistress’s world and sexuality are also reflected in her clothing, which generally consists of little more than a bra or bustier, a thong and some boots. She regularly holds massive orgies for herself and other diplomats, often with a masquerade theme. On the whole, the entire world very much echoes the halls of Mistress’s palace, as the only celibate person living there, or even nearby, is her Apprentice.
Despite all of this, she has been shown to genuinely enjoy and cater to at least one other person: Sandoval, the Xoan ambassador. He appears to be her best friend, and she happily indulges his obsession with her Apprentice. While Sandoval enjoys her good favor, the Apprentice (whose actual name she never uses) is not so lucky. Mistress has threatened to kill him, tried to kill him, and abandoned him to kidnappers, only ransoming him because she became annoyed with the messages he was sending to her. In fact, her last canon action was to have him killed via a magic arrow -- he didn’t die, but that was largely out of her hands.
Speaking of apprentices, the one she has is not her first! Mistress tends to go through apprentices and other employees very quickly. This is mostly due to the fact that she treats them terribly, endangering their lives on a regular basis. The two apprentices before her current one were killed, one for learning magic on his own (implying that Mistress has no actual interest in teaching her apprentices anything at all). The other was killed simply because her current Apprentice, recently freed from a hostage situation, managed to guess the animal she was thinking of (“salmon”).
Her childish and selfish ways ensure that little ever really gets done, at least not by her hand. The kingdom seems to be fairly good at running itself, and Mistress spend most of her time leisurely taking tributes, or having portraits painted, or lazily tormenting people. Her only official duty seems to mostly be dealing with foreign relations, and a great deal of that duty is made up of dispatching assassins (or calling them off, depending on what’s happened). Most of her official decrees involve punishing various villages and/or ambassadors for their “crap tributes”.
Needless to say, any living situation in which she is not the head honcho will not go over well with her.
Abilities/Weaknesses: Mistress has a few interesting powers. Important to note is that her powers appear to be learned (as she can take apprentices to teach them magic), rather than in-born, and thus they are not particularly unique to her. She is able to enchant various things and make them animate, or hide them. She also seems to have some sort of fire-based power, but rarely uses it outside of torture. In addition to this, she has a wide variety of magical objects: a hawk with laser vision, a magic box that creates desire, and a baby monster (it was killed) are among them.
As for weaknesses, she doesn't seem to have many. Her own temper is one, as it can lead her to acquiesce to demands out of pure annoyance, and she doesn't seem to have control of other people's magical abilities, e.g., she was unable to prevent Ivan from not being killed (implying that whatever saved him was out of her command).
